Are you a parent in desperate search of someone to help your young child or teen process negative emotions and experiences in a safe and caring environment? Does your child or teen struggle with separation anxiety, acting out in school, irrational fears, nightmares, lack of motivation, insecurities, traumatic experiences, eating disorders, or self harm and suicidal thoughts? Rachel works with both children and teens in a therapeutic setting, creating a safe space for them to process these difficult realities.
For children, Rachel specializes in Child Centered Play Therapy. She works hard to relate to each child she sees, empowering them to be themselves in a big and sometimes scary world. Rachel loves Play Therapy while it is the natural language of children where toys are their words, allowing them to process difficult emotions in a developmentally appropriate way.
Play Therapy is highly effective for a variety of social, emotional, and behavioral disorders that have developed or been impacted by life stressors such as: divorce, relocation, hospitalization, chronic illness, trauma, physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence, natural disasters, or loss of a loved one.
In her sessions with teens she uses a different approach. As teens enter a confusing and overwhelming stage of life where things are rapidly changing, Rachel provides a safe space for them to explore and express themselves. Rachel uses Person Centered Therapy alongside different therapeutic tools such as creative arts therapy, activity therapy, and talk therapy specialized to each teen she encounters. Teens naturally have difficulty trusting authority figures, so she works hard to build rapport and trust, creating a safe space for them to process difficult emotions and be themselves.
Rachel understands the developmental differences between children and adolescents of all ages and works hard to specialize her care to the specific needs of each client.
Rachel graduated from Appalachian State University in North Carolina with a Bachelors in Public Health. She received her Masters in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. She enjoys being outside and exploring new places, but especially enjoys time spent with loved ones. Rachel has volunteered in her local church for many years in both the children and youth ministries, giving her great insight and experience caring for these age groups.
